I finally called my host family. I've been ridiculously nervous to do that and putting it off for days. I have no idea why though.
Rosa, the mom, was out at the grocery store, so I talked to the dad, Arnulfo. He sounded really nice and that was a huge relief. He seemed a little surprised when I said I was coming Saturday. I thought it was a little funny he didn't seem to know what was going on--typical dad style. When I said the date though, right away he said oh yes, they'd be waiting for me at home.
A few hours later, I realized, omg I said I was coming Saturday instead of Sunday. He wasn't clueless, he was confused! I completely told him the wrong day. Thankfully, I did say the right date. I'm too embarrassed to call back, so I emailed my arrival information to my admissions adviser and asked her to please pass it along to the host family. Hopefully that will take care of any confusion.
I don't know what happened. I was just so on edge, I panicked. Sadly, the worst part is I feel like that might be happening a lot in the near future. Well...at least this first mistake is a sort of forewarning for me. I hope these stumbles will at least make for some unexpected adventures to accompany the embarrassment and confusion.
Hi Leslie.
